A number of common issues are often simple to rectify. Below we have listed some of our top tips to help you to troubleshoot independently.
Q: “My computer won’t turn on”
A: The first thing to check is if the issue is with the monitor or the computer. The power button should be lit up on both the monitor and the keyboard. If either aren’t lit up, then check that the plug hasn’t been turned off and that the power cables are fitted correctly.
Q: “My station won’t log on”
A: Unless there has been a network outage, this will probably be due to one of a number of issues. Check that there are no spaces in the username or password box and that the Caps Lock button hasn’t been pressed. Check that the word “Connected” is appearing in the top right of your screen.
Q: “I’ve got no sound”
A: This may be due to the green speaker cable not being plugged in correctly or the speakers being turned off. You may also find that the volume on your computer has been turned down. You will be able to tell this if the speaker icon at the bottom right hand side has a cross next to it.
Q: “I’ve deleted a piece of work”
A: There is a short period of time which work can be recovered from your user area. If you click your right mouse button on the folder where your work was saved, you will see an option at the bottom called Properties. If you click on this option you will then see a tab across the top called Previous Versions. Selecting one of these will restore the files in your user area which were present on that date. You may however, lose any work which has been completed since the date you selected.
Q: “I need a picture of a pupil/some work taking”
A: We have a range of cameras suitable for a variety of purposes which we are happy to loan out to members of staff or departments to enable them to document student’s work or the achievements of individual pupils. Given the range of complexity in some of our cameras, we will be more than willing to make sure that you can get the best of it!
Q: “I’ve got an assembly”
A: A range of equipment can be provided for you in advance of an assembly but this can take time to set up. We do therefore ask for as much notice as possible if you require any audio/visual equipment for an assembly or a visiting external agency.
Q: “I need batteries/board wipes/cleaning products/a charging cable”
A: Whilst we do stock a small number of these items, they are generally for use within the department. Any requested piece of equipment that is lent to you will have sufficient battery power. Unfortunately, there is a slim chance that we do not have access to cables to charge mobile phones, personal laptops or other devices bought in from outside of school.
